In Loh Kruet bouwt Medair sanitair volgens Aarts ontwerp.
Dus willen John en Aart er op bezoek om te zien hoe het gaat

At Loh Kruet Medair is building sanitation based on Aarts design
So John and Aart want to pay the project a visit to see how things are going

De toilet gebouwtjes staan los van de huizen, daardoor is het mogelijk om het verval in het leiding systeem te optimaliseren.

The toilet buildings are separated from the houses, which gives the possibility to optimize the fall in the piping system

Dit is dus wat de inleidende foto voorstelde: de slibpomp
Na verloop van tijd vult de bodem van een septic tank zich met slib, oftewel de verteerde resten. Om die eruit te krijgen heeft Aart een pomp ontwikkeld die eenvoudig met lokaal beschikbaar materiaal te maken is.

After some time the bottom of a septic tank fills up with sludge, the digested remains.
To get that out Aart designed a pump which can be constructed from local available materials

De slibpomp heeft een geschiedenis: Zowel Aart voor zijn hulporganisatie als een andere hulporganisatie OXFAM hebben een ontwerp voor de pomp gemaakt. Die van OXFAM vereiste enig speciaal laswerk, terwijl die van Aart met wat bamboe en plastic te maken is.

Er is ook een foto van Aart waarop te zien is wat er gebeurt als de pomp verkeerd gemonteerd wordt.
De laatste foto's laten zien dat het slib gedroogd wordt en dan in het tropenklimaat in korte tijd veranderd in goede mest.

The sludgepump has a history. Both Aart for his NGO as well as the OXFAM NGO designed a pump. The OXFAM version required some special welding, whereas Aart's design can be made with some bamboo and plastic.

There is also a picture of Aart which shows what happens if the pump is assembled wrong.
The last pictures show that the sludge is dried and then under the influence of the tropical climate turns into fertilizer in a short time.

Een foutje. De put op de voorgrond is een septic tank zonder bodem. De aannemer had die moeten vervangen door de eerste tank van het systeem erachter (met de T-vormige beluchter)
De eerste tank zal nog worden dichtgegooid.

A mistake. The pit in the foreground is a septic tank without a bottom. The contractor should have replaced it for the first tank of the system behind it (with the T-shaped vent)
The first pit will be filled up to prevent it from leaking.
