Een rondrit met als thema drink- en afvalwater.
Dit om een idee te krijgen wat het werk van Aart inhoudt.

De titel van deze pagina is ook wat dubbelzinnig: in dit klimaat moet je veel water drinken.

And drinking water is a must in this climate

Eerst brengen we een bezoek aan de drinkwaterzuivering in Banda Aceh.

First we pay a visit to a water purification plant in Banda Aceh.

Het eindproduct.

Air = water
Minum = drinkbaar
Maar wat deze chauffeur doet is dus niet de bedoeling.
Hij pompt water op wat al vervuild is, want links naast het bruggetje zijn vrouwen de was aan het doen en zwemmen kinderen in het water.

(Om problemen te voorkomen heb ik deze vrouwen en de chauffeur maar niet op de foto gezet)

But this driver is way out of line.
He is pumping up water that's already polluted, because left beside the little bridge women are doing laundry and kids are swimming in the water.

(To avoid conflicts I did not picture these women and the driver)

Achter het bruggetje op de vorige foto ligt een bron en verder naar rechts, waar de pijpen vandaan komen, nog één
Het gebouwtje is het inname-punt van een oude Nederlandse drinkwaterzuivering.
We zitten hier op een van de berghellingen bij Banda Aceh, de drinkwaterzuivering ligt lager op de helling. De zwaartekracht zorgt deels voor het vervoer en druk op filters.

Behind the bridge lies a well and further to the right, where the pipes are coming from, lies another one.
The building is an intake-point of an old Dutch water purification plant.
We are in the hills outside Banda Aceh, the plant lies lower on the slope. Gravity takes care of transportation and provides pressure on filters.

Hoger op de helling vinden we nog een ander inname-punt.

Higher on the slope we find another intake point.

En het enige wat kapot ging in al die jaren, was de gietijzeren leiding naar de zuivering

Maar met behulp van wat bevriende naties is dat weer gefixt.

But some help of friends this was fixed again.

Plotseling rent er voor ons een hagedis de weg over.

Suddenly a lizard crosses the road in front of us.

Het strand met her en der nog puin.

The beach with occasional rubble still there.

Deze foto is genomen op de hoogte van het achterland. Dat is helemaal vlak en ook hier kon de tsunami golf ongehinderd doorlopen.

This picture was taken at land-level. The land is totally flat and here also the tsunami wave traveled inland without any obstruction.

Iets verderop langs de weg vinden we een gedenksteen.
