De volgende ochtend. Zelfde plek, ontbijt. Nee, het lijkt maar alsof Ada de bestelling opneemt.

Next morning. Same spot, breakfast. No, it only looks as if Ada is taking the orders.

Deze ochtend wordt er gezwommen.

This morning is spent swimming.

Dat is te zeggen, door mijn reisgenoten.

That is, by my fellow travellers.

Ik kan de verleiding niet weerstaan en ga eens verderop kijken.
Een enkele blik volstaat om te zien dat de tsunami ook hier heeft toegeslagen.

I cannot resist the urge to scout further ahead.
A simple look tells the tsunami hit here also.

Aan het einde van het strand begint dit pad en ik aarzel niet.

At the end of this beach a path starts and I don't hesitate.

En ondanks het prachtige uitzicht is het niet te miskennen dat hier het een en ander gebeurd is.

And despite the beautiful view it is unmistakable that something happened here.

Waren ooit deel van iemands privé paradijs.

Used to be part of someone's private paradise.

Maar ook dit paradijs is verloren gegaan.

But this paradise was lost also.

De kustlijn ligt bezaaid met kapot koraal.

The coastline is littered with broken coral.

Terwijl ik terugloop, komen wind en golven opzetten.

While I walk back, wind and waves are coming up.

Waar zijn de toeristen?

Where are the tourists?

Landinwaarts ligt dit onafgebouwde hotel, bij gebrek aan toeristen of zou de de eigenaar ..

De anderen zijn ondertussen ook uitgeweekt en we gaan terug om een hapje te eten en ons voor te bereiden op het middag programma.

Meanwhile the others are done soaking and we head back for a bite to eat and to prepare for the afternoon program.

De duikschool aan het strand is dit weekend ingenomen door mensen van National Geographic.
Ze zijn bezig om de toestand van het koraal te bekijken. Dus ik verwacht binnenkort wel een documentaire op TV.

The diving school on the beach is occupied by people of National Geographic.
They are surveying the condition of the coral. I expect a documentary on TV soon.

Voordat ons vervoer arriveert, lopen we naar de hoogste top van het resort.

While waiting for our ride, we stroll up to the highest point of the resort.

Door het gebrek aan toeristen is het restaurant op de top gesloten.
Wat een prachtplek om te eten!
Het Restaurant aan het Einde van het Universum is beslist verder weg.

Due to lack of tourists the restaurant on the top is closed.
But what a beautiful spot to eat!
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe is less reachable.

Het rode kader over het silhouet van het eiland geeft aan waar we zijn.

We gaan letterlijk in zee met deze schipper

We hire this skipper and his boat.

En daar gaan we.

And there we go.

Hoewel er natuurlijk niets boven echt duiken gaat, kun je van boven toch ook wel aardig wat zien.
De glasplaat bemoeilijkt alleen het fotograferen en de autofocus gaat uit

Tough nothing beats real diving, much can be seen from topside as well.
Only taking pictures is hampered by the glass and autofocus is best switched off.

Inderdaad, man en vrouw zijn één.

Het is voorbij voor je er erg in hebt.

Before you realize it, the trip is over.

Oh, ik geloof dat ik nog een vertaling schuldig was.

Na een kop koffie, volgt er dan een dollemansrit ( anders kan ik het niet beschrijven ) naar het begin van Indonesië.

After a cup of coffee, we make a mad dash ( no other way to describe it ) to the start of Indonesia.

Het begin van Indonesië is dit punt op Sabang. Het is het meest noordwestelijke punt van de hele archipel.
De tegenpool, het einde van Indonesië ligt ca. 5100 km verderop op Irian Jaya (Nieuw Guinea)

Er staat op deze plek een monument: De symboliek is de magische vogel, de Garuda, bovenop het cijfer nul.

There is a monument on this spot: the symbolic is the magic bird, the Garuda, on top of the digit zero.

Zittend op de balustrade, is dit het zicht op de naastgelegen eilanden: Pulau Breueh en Pulau Peunasu.

Sitting on the fence, this is the view on neighbouring islands Pulau Breueh and Pulau Peunasu.

Ontbijt de volgende morgen, onze laatste dag op Sabang alweer.

Breakfast the next morning, already our last day on Sabang.

Na het ontbijt kopen we wat souvenirs. Conny en Ada bewonderen de hanger van Gezinus.

After breakfast we buy some souvenirs. Canny and Ada admire Gezinus's necklace.

Terwijl de anderen een laatste duik nemen, ga ik weer op foto-tour.
Dit is ons ontbijtplekje vanaf de weg hoger op de heuvel.

While the others enjoy a last dip, I'm on photo-tour again.
This is out breakfast spot as seen from the road higher up the hill.

Dit is dat hotel weer. Het is niet beschadigd door de tsunami, maar simpelweg nooit afgebouwd.

This is that hotel again. It is not damaged by the tsunami, but the construction is simply never finished.

Uiteindelijk komt de weg net voorbij het hotel op het strand uit.
We hadden ons al afgevraagd hoe er auto's op het strand konden komen.

The road ends on the beach, just passed the hotel.
We had already wondered how cars reached the beach.

En met dit kleine wezentje op de koffie tafel nemen we afscheid van Sabang.

And with this little critter on the coffee table we say goodbye to Sabang.
